The keto diet is a very-low-carb nutrition plan, allowing you to eat high amounts of healthy fats and a good amount of protein.

Research suggests that cutting out carbs has a variety of health benefits, such as:

  • reducing the risk of type-2 diabetes,  cognitive dysfunction, heart disease, and more.

Not surprisingly,

Celebrities are joining the “keto craze” as of late!

Every week, periodicals are extolling the rapid weight loss benefits that big-screen icons experience once they adopt the keto lifestyle.

One reason for such fast results is that an individual will be consuming whole foods and healthy fats, which provides the feeling of fullness, thus allowing the person to stay fuller longer.

In lieu of carbohydrates, keto forces your body to rely on fat for energy.

Also, when you eat more healthy fats and cut out carbs, you will be eating much less sugar.

Another big factor is that by eating lower amounts of carbs, you are likely to have a sugar crash or an energy slump later in the day.

Studies have shown that the keto diet can improve energy levels, enhance mental clarity, and promote cognitive function throughout the day.

Celebrities on Keto

Lately, celebrities on the keto diet are all the ‘rage’; this celebrity loses weight, that celebrity sees amazing results.

Before you know it, everyone’s on the bandwagon of whatever these stars did to get in shape.

We will discuss why this isn’t always a realistic way of approaching your diet in just a bit.

Here’s a list of some of the top celebrities on keto (or famous people who have used keto to get in shape):

  • Halle Berry
  • Jessica Biel
  • Tim Tebow
  • Katie Couric
  • Megan Fox
  • Vinny Guadagnio
  • Grant Hill
  • LeBron James
  • Tom Jones
  • Kourtney Kardashian
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Adriana Lima
  • Kellan Lutz
  • Millie Mackintosh
  • Matthew McConaughey
  • Tim McGraw
  • Gwenneth Paltrow

Let’s take a closer look at how some of these celebrities used the keto diet and their experiences.

Halle Berry on the Keto Diet

Halle Berry has been a big fan of eating low-carb for quite some time, which makes the keto diet a great choice for her as she views it more like a lifestyle than just a short-term fad.

She’s also a self-proclaimed meat lover. Berry chooses to replace carbs with healthy fat sources like avocados, butter, and coconut oil

Katie Couric and Keto Life

Katie Couric, a mother of two, reportedly enjoys using the keto diet to keep in shape since she is quite the busy person these days.

She noted that she experienced flu-like symptoms at the beginning of her transition to keto. (We have an article that discusses the “keto flu” she was experiencing: The Keto Flu: What is it and How to Fix It).

Couric likes eating more fat and protein throughout the day instead of carbs, as it keeps her full and energized. She even eats some dairy, mainly cheese, and adds half and half to her iced coffee.

Vinny Guadagnino’s Keto Diet

Vinny Guadagnino, a glorified “gym bro” from the hit reality TV series Jersey Shore has apparently been on the keto bandwagon for some time.

Guadagnino claims that by exercising several times a week and cutting carbs, he not only looks ten years younger but has dropped roughly 50 pounds! Guadagnino says he regularly consumes fatty fish, steak, bacon and eggs, and butter, all while remaining lean and mean.

Lebron James on Keto

According to news reports, LeBron James was on the keto diet during the 2017 offseason to stay in shape.

While on the keto diet, LeBron reportedly cut out all carbs, dairy, and sugar, which he felt contributed to his ability to play at such a high level come time for the 2017 NBA season.

It’s quite amazing to think such an elite athlete like Lebron uses keto, but detailed specifics about his exact food/macro intake remains somewhat of a mystery.

The Kardashian Keto Diet

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian both have followed the keto diet.

While Kim followed in Kourtney’s footsteps, Kourtney seems to the healthier of the two sisters. Kourtney has going keto as a ‘really positive experience’, and doctors say she has become healthier. Kim has used both the Atkin’s Forty diet and keto.

Andriana Lima

Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima has also been a fan of keto.

Lima follows a very-low-carb diet and hits the gym two hours daily (which is quite a bit more than most people).

Lima consumes a variety of healthy, high-protein snacks and lots of greens, but not much else is known about her eating habits (models tend to be very restrictive and reticent about their nutrition).

Celebrity Weight Loss: Who’s Doing it Right?

Although some of the above celebrities on keto may keep up with their new found love of carbless life, hands down Halle Berry seems to be doing it right.

Prior to going keto, Berry was primarily eating meat while consuming lower amounts of carbs. For Berry, the transition to the keto diet was a no-brainer and not as extreme as for other celebrities; it has been a lifestyle for her and not just a fad diet.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to gauge what goes on in the daily life of celebrities on keto, and whether or not they just use the keto diet for a few days/weeks to cut off a few pounds.

For example, LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, so to think he uses the keto diet is rather astonishing (and leaves something to be wary about). Same with Tim Tebow, who lately has been rather outspoken about his praise for the keto diet.

The problem with celebrity weight loss diet trends is that they are generally not healthy long-term solutions.

Celebrity Weight Loss Diet Trends Cycle:

  • Celebrities lose weight for a role
  • Then eat like crap and gain weight back
  • Find the next ‘quick fix’
  • And the vicious cycle repeats itself…

Also keep in mind that there is usually some sort of ulterior motive behind a celebrity saying that used a certain diet to lose weight, whether it’s for endorsements or for an article in a magazine.

Why You Shouldn’t Necessarily Take a Celebrity’s Diet Advice

Even if a celebrity loses weight quickly on the keto diet, this doesn’t mean keto is ideal for everyone. The keto diet is very low in carbs and may not be best for people who are very active.

Every celebrity weight loss diet needs to be taken with a grain of salt; just because it works for a big-screen actor doesn’t mean it’s what you should do.

By the same token, celebrities on weight loss diets are known for publically claiming to eat one way while doing something completely different behind closed doors.

When all is said and done, never look at a celebrity weight loss diet as being the ‘holy grail’ of nutrition advice.

Keto Is Not a Quick Fix

There is no quick fix when it comes to nutrition, and the keto diet is not magic. Although some celebrities tout the keto diet as a quick fix, it should be considered a lifestyle change.

For individuals who are serious about their weight loss endeavors and health, the keto diet can certainly be a beneficial long-term solution.

With that in mind, don’t let any celebrity weight loss diet fool you – there are no secrets that only “high society” has access to. Anything that’s worthwhile, takes time, diligent effort, and commitment.

If you want to lose weight, eat less, move more, and stay the course – the results will follow.
